Viriya Community Services (VCS) was established on 8 March 2001 as a social service agency organisation. Our principal activities are aligned with our vision ‘Caring for you; enhancing quality of life‘ and our mission to promote fulfilling lives. With these values in mind, we are committed to provide quality social services with the right effort and compassion, and make a positive and sustainable impact to the society.
Viriya is a Pali word which means Right Effort. This is defined as using persistent effort to work for the benefit of others through our thoughts and actions. This means that doing a good job may not be sufficient, it must be done with good intention and the intention must be pure.
We provide community-based family services, community mental health and health services, community development programmes and specialist services, including psychotherapy, psychological services, grief and bereavement support services, patient and caregiver counselling services, and employee assistance programmes.
Every year, our multi-disciplinary team of social workers, counsellors, family therapists and psychologists another other professionals support about 5,000 individuals and families regardless of race and religion. Our outreach has grown over the years and we will continue to enhance our new and existing programmes to meet the anticipated needs of the community.
VCS is a society registered under the Societies Act, and a charity under the Charities Act. VCS is a full member of the National Council of Social Service (NCSS), as well as an Institution of a Public Character (IPC) under the supervision of the Ministry of Social and Family Development, which acts as the Central Fund Administrator.
As an Institution of Public Character (IPC). Outright cash donations of S$50.00 and above will qualify for 250% tax deduction and will be automatically included in your annual assessment.

Viriya Mental Wellness Hub promotes mental wellness in the community and provides professional psychosocial services to individuals and families facing mental health challenges.
The Charity Council awarded VCS the Special Commendation Award for Clarity of Strategy and for the second consecutive year, the Charity Transparency Award in 2019.
Viriya Psychological Services started in September 2019. Our team of Psychologists provide clinical psychological assessments and standardised treatments to support the mental health needs of the community.
Viriya Grief Support Services was started in July 2019 to meet the gap for specialist support in managing difficulty grief over death of loved ones and other losses. We also provide capability building programmes in grief support for the public and professionals.
Viriya Therapy Centre opened on 08 March 2019. The centre provides specialised individual and family therapy, expressive arts therapy and clinical psychological assessments and interventions.
Viriya MediAssist Fund is a collaboration with Potong Pasir CCC. The fund supports individuals, regardless of age with medical conditions to live their lives to the fullest in the community while having their needs met. The fund assist individuals with medical fees, consumables and even home rectification based on the individual’s needs.
Viriya Family Service Centre was VCS’s second Family Service Centre, serving residents of Potong Pasir and Joo Seng constituencies using integrated social work practice. It was officially opened by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on 7 September 2014.
Viriya Elderly Medical Fund rides on the success model of the children’s medical programme and was started in July 2013. Besides financial assistance, our case workers provide case management which will help to maintain or even enhance the psychop-socio-emotional well-being of the elderly.
Viriya Children’s Medical Fund was set up to help low income families with children, aged 0 to 16 years, who requires long term medical care. Besides financial assistance, through case management, support groups and activities, the project helps to enhance socio-emotional capabilities of the children and their families. The fund is an extension to Viriya-KK Children’s Hospital HomeCare Programme.
My Centre@Moulmein serves the residents and senior citizens residing in Moulmein-Kallang GRC and promotes a positive image on active aging, inter-generation interaction and family bonding.
Whispering Hearts Infant & Child Care Centre provides infant and child care services to more than 60 children from low income families. Providing a safe, well-supervised, stimulating and enjoyable environment, the centre ensured total development of the pre-schoolers. The centre was renamed Whispering Hearts Child Care Centre in 2015 and on 1 July 2017, the operations of the centre has been transferred to My First Campus.
Viriya – KK Children’s Hospital HomeCare Programme is a partnership to provide financial, community and emotional support to chronically-ill children and their families. The programme enables the children to have a speedy recovery in the warm and familiar environment of their home.
Dreams began operations as a youth drop-in centre providing programmes and services for youths through preventive, developmental and remedial intervention. Dreams has engaged hundreds of youths to date through performing arts, sports and recreational activities.
Viriya Children’s Education Fund started in 2003 and currently consists of Viriya-Sunray Education Fund and Viriya-KPMG Scholarship. All children in VCS programmes are eligible to apply for the fund if they meet the relevant criteria.
Lilies on the River was the flagship fund raising event from 2003 to 2006 to raise funds for all VCS programmes. 50 illuminated giant lilies amongst 100,000 lilies were floated down the Singapore River. The lilies symbolizes perseverance, enduring strength, unique beauty and wisdom. VCS hoped that the event would bring good favour to all in Singapore, helping them to persevere through the challenging times in a fast changing environment.
Sharing & Caring for You was a project to provide monthly food rations to needy families. Workshops and activities were organised to motivate families to have the will and determination to break the cycle of poverty.
LHCST – NKF Dialysis Centre was set up to provide dialysis treatment to 108 patients annually on top of offering a customized exercise programme for each individual to allow them to stay fit and healthy, ensuring vitality and independence for the rest of their lives.
Whispering Hearts Student Care Centre takes care of school-going children of age 7 to 14 while their parents are at work. Besides basic before and after school care programmes, ad-hoc activities are organised to encourage total development of the children.
Whispering Hearts Family Service Centre was the first family service centre under VCS which opened its doors to serve the residents in Jurong West.
Viriya Community Services was founded by Leong Hwa Monastery to provide community and social services to low income families in Singapore regardless of race and religion.
