viriya corner

Viriya Corner (VC), an activity area comprises of a senior and children activity centre that simulates closely to a home environment.

VC welcomes our members to bond with one another over table games, coffee and tea or just sharing opinions over TV programmes during their leisure time. It is an activity hub in the community, with its intentional design to attract both the young and senior residents to engage in regular inter-generation activities and bond together as a community.

Viriya Corner, a well-received activity area was launched at Viriya Family Service Centre on 4th March 2017. It comprises of a senior activity centre and a toy library that promotes intergeneration bonding.

Senior activity centre comprises of friendly curriculum/programmes:

  • Exercise Interest Group: An Active-Ageing low impact workout lead by a HPB Ambassador, helps elderly improve strength, heart and circulation health, and keeps their mind active.

Every Friday, 2.30pm to 3.30pm

  • Lets Learn English: Enable increased independence, empower seniors to integrate more seamlessly into the community and to enhance their quality of life.

Every Thursday, 2pm to 3pm

  • Bingo: Increases mental flexibility and alertness, exercise hand-eye coordination and at the same time, it gives them a chance to relax and mingle with peers who have the same interests as them.

Every Friday, 2pm to 3pm

  • Community Health Post: Provides basic health screening services such as blood pressure, blood glucose test, BMI and weight management.

Every Friday, 2pm to 4pm

  • Community Engagement Programmes: 
  1. Inter-generational programmes that aids elderly stave off social isolation, learn to understand each other and bridge the generation gap.
  2. Quarterly excursion to places of interest.

Our opening hours:

Tuesday and Thursday: 11am to 8pm
Friday: 11am to 5pm
Closed on public holidays

VC @ WHFSC is designed to encourage the community to participate in our activities that inspires the young and encourage the seniors to strengthen intergeneration bond through our programmes.

Children and Youth Programme

Through the programmes, we hope to influence and inspire a spirit of service and compassion to children and youths as they pursue their dreams and aspirations.

  • Apprenticeship: The programme opens up alternative educational pathways for children and youths who can thrive in different settings from existing educational system through various collaborations:
    • Grateful Dress
    • LOOMS
    • Bettr Barista
    • Code in the Community
  • Art and Sports Programme: The programme aims to build resilience and promote mental health wellness among youths through organised team sports and art activities. The activities would encourage youths to foster team spirit, build bonds and support for each other through the engagement of group activities.
  • Service Learning: The programme aims to inculcate spirit of service and compassion through building skills and supporting the needs in the community through project management.

Elderly Programme

We aim to enhance social interaction and strengthening social support in the community through engaging activities and sharing sessions between seniors, volunteers and our colleagues.

  • Digital Literacy and Social Media Interest Group: To equip participants with useful and practical digital knowledge on how they can use their mobile devices effectively.

Every Friday, 9.30am to 10.30am

  • BINGO Interest Group: The game increases mental flexibility, alertness and hand-eye coordination, and enable socialisation among participants.Every Wednesday, 9.30am to 10.30pm
  • Rummikub Interest Group: The game increases mental flexibility, alertness and hand-eye coordination, and enable socialisation among participants.
