Viriya Children’s Education Fund

The Viriya Children’s Education Fund (VCEF) aims to support and motivate our children and youths in achieving their academic potential and building a strong foundation towards better life outcome.

 

VCEF compromises of the following:

  • Back-to-School-Packs
  • Viriya Education Award
  • Viriya - KPMG Scholarship Fund

Objectives:

The Back-to-School-Packs (BTSP) aims to:

  1. Enhance the joy of our children and youths in starting a new school year.
  2. Provide resources to help our children and youths obtain essential school supplies.
  3. To support the educational needs of children and youths from low-income families.

Eligibility:

  1. Applicant must be registered as a member of VCS’ programmes or services at the time of registration and remain as member till the time of disbursement of the BTSP;
  2. Applicant must be a Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident;
  3. Applicant must be studying in a government or government-aided primary or secondary school;
  4. Applicant’s net household per capita income should not exceed S$650; and
  5. Applicant’s family members should not possess a total savings of more than S$10,000.

Value of each Back-to-School-Pack:

Total of S$60 worth of vouchers for purchasing of books, stationery and other items related to educational needs.

Terms:

  1. VCS reserves the right to make any changes to the eligibility, value or any terms of BTSP without any prior notice.
  2. VCS reserves the right to make the final decision on the list of recipients of BTSP.

Method of Application:

  1. All applications must be made through and endorsed by employees of VCS in November of every year.
  2. Closing date for the application of Back to School Packs will be on 23 November, 1pm.
  3. The outcome of the applications will be finalized by 30 November.
  4. Vouchers will be disbursed in December and must be collected by 31 January, failing which, the vouchers will be forfeited.
  5. Beneficiaries or their parents must sign to acknowledge receipt of the vouchers upon collection.

Objectives:

  1. To acknowledge and reward the effort of our children and youths of families whose families are receiving casework services from Viriya Community Services who have achieved good academic improvement despite challenges in academic learning or family financial constraints.
  2. To motivate our children and youths to persevere and work towards better academic results.

Eligibility:

  1. Applicant must be a registered member of VCS’ programmes or services at the time of registration and remain as member till the time of disbursement of the award;
  2. Applicant must be a Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident;
  3. Applicant must be studying in a government or government-aided primary or secondary school;
  4. Applicant must possess good conduct as assessed by his school (based on his/her report card) and by the staff of VCS, where appropriate;
  5. Parents of applicant must possess positive attitude and demonstrate good support as assessed by VCS; and
  6. Applicant must not be receiving any other scholarship and/or bursary (except for the Edusave Merit Bursary).
  7. Applicant’s net household per capita income should not exceed S$650;

Qualifying Academic Criteria:

  1. Achieved overall grades of Band 2 or ‘B’ in all academic subjects; OR
  2. Achieved improvement of at least 1 grade point (i.e. 5 marks) in 2 core academic subjects from SA1 to SA2.

Value of awards:

  1. S$300 (cheque will be issued payable in the name of the child.)

Terms of the awards:

  1. The award is for one year only and recipients may re-apply in subsequent years.
  2. VCS reserves the right to make any changes to the eligibility, value or any terms of the award without any prior notice.
  3. Applications must be fully completed and submitted with required supporting documents. Incomplete or late application will not be considered.
  4. VCS reserves the right to make the final decision.

Method of Application:

  1. All Applications must be submitted by 23 November, 1:00pm via the online form (or scan the QR code) at https://tinyurl.com/VCSEducation2019
  2. All applications must be endorsed by an employee of VCS and accompanied by the following documents:
    1. A certified copy of the latest school’s examination result;
    2. A photocopy of applicant’s NRIC/Birth Certificate;
    3. A photocopy of NRIC (front and back) of at least one parent or legal guardian;
    4. Latest monthly payslip of applicant’s parents/ guardians and family members or written statement if self-employed.
  3. All completed applications and the relevant supporting documents must be submitted back to any of the centres operated by VCS by the given deadline.
  4. Applications for each year will open on 1st November.
  5. Applicants will be informed of the outcome of the applications by 30 November. The award will be presented in December and must be collected by 31 January, failing which, the award will be forfeited.

Objectives:

  1. To acknowledge and reward children and youths of families whose families are receiving casework services from Viriya Community Services for their excellent academic achievement in school.
  2. To motivate and support children and youths of families whose families are receiving casework services from VCS to strive for even greater achievement in their studies.

Eligibility:

  1. Applicant must be a registered member of VCS’ programmes or services at the time of registration and remain as member till the time of disbursement of the award;
  2. Applicant must be a Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident;
  3. Applicant must be studying in a government or government-aided primary or secondary school;
  4. Applicant must possess good conduct as assessed by his school (based on his/her report card) and by the staff of VCS, where appropriate;
  5. Parents of applicant must possess positive attitude and demonstrate good support as assessed by VCS; and
