The Viriya Children's Education Fund (VCEF) assists children and youths in realising their potential.

As such, the Fund will:

- facilitate the provision of formal and informal education for children and youths through preschools, schools and tertiary educational institutions, including the provision of buildings and related educational facilities

- support education through the provision of prizes and scholarships

- advance the involvement of youths in subjects relating, in particular, to engineering, humanities or accountancy

- promote the development and education of youths through sports

 

Currently, VCEF consists of the following funds:  

Viriya - Sunray Education Fund

Viriya - KPMG Scholarship Fund

 

Viriya - Sunray Education Fund

Objectives:       

(a) To acknowledge and reward the children receiving help from other centers and programmes by Viriya Community Services (VCS) for their efforts towards academic achievement.

(b) To motivate and support the children receiving help from other centers and programmes by Viriya Community Services (VCS) to strive for even greater achievement in their studies.

Eligibility:          

(a)  Applicant must be registered as students or participants in approved programmes of VCS for at least 6 months as of 31 October in the year of application and achieved 80% attendance;

(b) Applicant must be a Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident;

(c)  Applicant must be studying in government or government-aided primary or secondary schools;

(d) Applicant must possess good conduct as assessed by his school (based on his/her report card) and by the staff of VCS, where appropriate;

(e) Parents of application must possess positive attitude and demonstrate good support as assessed by VCS; and

(f) Applicant must not be receiving any other scholarship and/or bursary (except for the Edusave Merit Bursary).

(g) Applicant’s net household per capita income should not exceed S$450; and

(h) Applicant’s family members should not possess total savings exceeding S$10,000.

Qualifying Academic Criteria for Primary and Secondary:

(a) Overall pass in first language and

(b) Achieved overall grades of Band 2 or ‘B’ in all academic subjects OR 

     Achieved improvement of at least 1 grade point (i.e. 5 marks) in 2 core academic subjects from SA1 to
       SA2.

Value of awards:

(a) Primary            $500 (cheque to be issued payable in the name of the child)

(b) Secondary       $500 (cheque to be issued payable in the name of the child)

Terms of the awards:

(a) The award is for one year only and recipients may re-apply in subsequent years.

(b) The decision of the Selection Committee is final.

1.   All applications must be made on prescribed forms obtainable from:

2. All applications must be certified by the respective Schools and accompanied by:

(a) A certified copy of the latest final examination results;

(b) A photocopy of NRIC / Birth Certificate;

(c) A photocopy of both parents' NRICs;

(d) Latest monthly payslip of applicant's parents / guardians or written statement if self-employed.
